TRITTON AX 720

Gaming headsets have become highly essential to owners of consoles over the past couple years. With the release of PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, in-game communication has played a large role in gamers’ online experiences. TRITTON Technologies have designed the AX 720 which brings gamers a high performance gaming audio system. The TRITTON AX 720 is specifically designed and optimized for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but is also compatible with Windows and Mac. Read more for the full review.

TRITTON’s AX 720 has a circumaural headphone design. This means that when you have the headset on, it completely covers both ears giving the user the best quality and sound experience possible. The AX 720 headset is extremely comfortable allowing any gamer to rock it for their all-night gaming sessions. Since the AX 720 does have a circumaural headphone design, it does contain much more weight than your average headset or wireless/Bluetooth headset, but not enough to make it uncomfortable. The headset also allows for the user to remove the cushioned pads which makes them easy to replace after countless days of use.

I am sure many of you are assuming that this is your general gaming headset that you can find in any store that sells headsets. I am here to tell you that this is not true. Unlike most headsets where you just plug it into your system or TV, the AX 720 requires you to plug it into the included digital audio control box which will then plug into your gaming console. This box contains two headset jacks, a USB microphone port, and a Dolby Digital audio decoder. The digital audio control box allows you to deliver your sound via Dolby Digital 5.1, Pro Logic II, and Dolby Headphone. This gives you the option to actually hear the sound through the headset with the 5.1 surround sound experience rather than your TV or speaker system. While all of these features are extremely nice, the set up will take up much more space than your average wireless/Bluetooth headset.

Although the AX 720 does take up much more space than an average gaming headset, it does contain its advantages. Unlike many gaming headsets out there, the AX 720 delivers a 5.1 surround sound experience that most headsets could only dream of with precision audio and superior voice communication. The AX 720 brings gamers an incredible surround sound experience that is directed towards your ears rather than throughout your room. The sound quality is simply amazing with clear and crisp audio. I actually found myself enjoying a Blu-ray with the headset on rather than listening to my speaker system. The only problem here is that between the cables and the digital audio control box, it does not give the user the pleasure of sitting far away from the TV.

Since the AX 720 is a gaming headset, it obviously includes a microphone. The nice thing that this headset offers that most headsets do not is the option to remove the microphone. This allows the user to watch movies using the headset without having to worry about having a microphone disrupting their view. The quality gamers will receive from this microphone is pretty good as long as the user adjusts the chat volume and game volume from the in-line audio control module. Without the correct adjustments, your teammates might have to suffer through aggravating echo or have a hard time understanding what you are saying.

Overall, the TRITTON AX 720 ranks up there with the top gaming headsets on the market. With superior voice communication and an immersive 3D surround sound experience, gamers will be more locked in than ever before. The headset does take up much more space and is much heavier/larger than your typical headset, but if you do not mind these accommodations and want to have an immersive audio experience, the TRITTON AX 720 is for you.

Final Score: 8.5/10

doesnt say anything about dolby decoder etc. i like the fact that it automatically adjusts the voice chat over the game audio. Im planning on asking for one for christmas, and i could really use one as i play at night when my girl is trying to sleep lol. Anyone have the p21 from gamestop?

The TRITTON AX 720 is going to be a better headset because the one you pointed out does not support 5.1 surround sound.
