NVIDIA 196.75 Driver Alert

NVIDIA Explosion

It seems NVIDIA is having some issues with it's latest 196.75 driver, and not a small issue to say the least. The drivers have been interfering with the fan operation on certain NVIDIA video cards, resulting in the GPU overheating.

At the time of writing this news my GPU was running really hot at 141 celsius, after the roll back it went back down to a cool 45. My card is a BFG GTX260.

"We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers do not download this driver. Instead, please stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our website and we also are asking our partners and others to remove temporarily this 196.75 WHQL driver as well."

Go here for steps on how to roll back your drivers.

Metro 2033

It looks like the PC is starting to push new boundaries this year. On March 16th, Metro 2033 will be released on the Xbox 360 and PC, but the PC version will support some features the console owners will surely envy, such as Nvidia's 3D Vision, hardware accelerated physical effects using Nvidia PhysX and a number of advanced DX11 features. Those lucky (rich) enough who own a DX11 graphics card will experience advanced Depth of Field effects (like in Avatar the movie) as well as Full Tessellation on character models. If only I could afford such hardware,I guess it's time to start playing the lottery again. For more info on the game go here.
