Slant 6 revealed a few days ago that patch 1.5 is coming soon for SOCOM: Confrontation. I know. The game has been out for many, many, months and it's still being patched in an attempt to make it worthy of being shipped to begin with. Here is the Slant 6 blog.
But the bigger piece of SOCOM news is that the 1.6 patch will bring with it free DLC. And, I'm giving away one copy of the game.
Here is a paragraph taken from the blog item.
"Four new weapons will be available to all players regardless of assigned Special Force. These are the 9mm Sub Machine Gun, M82A1A, Ak-74 and SR-25. The 1.60 will also include a number of weapon updates and adjustments to existing weapons."
Nice. All my favorite SOCOM 2 weapons are coming back. The company also says that it's planning a big DLC pack that I'm sure they will charge for.
What's that? You haven't played the game since it was released as a complete mess of a product. Well it's time to go back. Almost all the problems are fixed.

Hey man, i have a pretty funny story to tell about this game but idk if you want to hear it but ill tell you anyways. Well, you see, my very well-to-do friend bought this game a little while ago and let me play it the other day and had me realize what an awesome game it is. So ever since then ive really wanted to get it but since my money is tight, unlike his, it takes me a while to sike myself up into buying the game (due to a lot of misfortunate game purchases). However, today i played it again and i was able to sike myself into getting it. So i raced over to my nearest bestbuy and arrived at exactly 9:02, two minutes past closing, and they shut and locked the doors in my face. So then i raced over to gamestop where i got the same out come only six minutes after their closing time. Anyways Im practically in love with this game and it would be awesome if i could win it from your website.
Anyways sorry about the sob story i just wanted to tell someone lol. Thanks, man.

Hey, I always wanted to try the game out, but so many glitches made me hesitant to do so... but getting a free copy would be awesome and I'm sure that after this patch the game should be pretty playable.

Not to sound arrogant..lol, but this is mine and I so deserve it, and here's why. I was a original Beta Tester for the 1st SOCOM back on the PS2..MAN THAT WAS AN AWESOME TIME!. The 1st TRUE online mass multi player for any gaming console. I'm sure you remember that time as well. Now fast forward to last summer. I was already in the Motorstorm Beta when I got the SOCOM invite for Confrontation. I was pumped up of course, since it is the 1st SOCOM on the PS3.. how could I not be. lol. So I slide it in my PS3, it boots up and even BEFORE I get to start the games. It locks up. INSTANT MISERY and the thoughts of, "Are you serious? God#$$%. Ok I eject it out and begin again.
Now I get online YES!!! Here we go baby..it loads up, the game begins. I do some test firing, i move around, look up and down, left and right, just to get the feel down. Ok, now I'm next to a wall and as soon as I peek around the corner, DEAD. Oooo K.. not the start I was looking for, but not a problem. Now I re spawn and I'm pissing bullets at 2 enemies not more then 30 feet from me (in game distance) and as I move to my right I see that i am dead center on their chests and i''m dying..sorry.. now DEAD. My 1st "WTF" approx. 4 minutes into the game. Re spawn...running around, firing just to fire lol..and then my screen freezes, but as this happens i hear what sounds like gunfire out of my speakers, only to realize that the frame is frozen and I am actually hearing the games audio repeating. So i quit out. Reboot.
Get online and as my team spawns in, i don't take 5 steps when the 2 guys in front of me are frozen stiff AND they are 2 feet in the air. WTF #2..DONE for the night. Come online and send in email to the SOCOM people letting them know what happened with the problems I stated. The next day is here and I again, I login. Not 5 minutes into the game, I am seeing my teammates frozen.. Ok I can see this is becoming a HUGE explanation and as I continue, i MAY be done by Monday lol.
So I will cut this extra, extra short. So basically, what ensued the next few days, I either get on, then get knocked offline(my PC remains online btw) or I get into the game, ans then as within the 1st 5-6 minutes,. From frame rate issues, to lag, latency, floating players etc. Talk about depressing. You get a special invite to once again is one of my favorite games of all time. Here is the same franchise now months or so, I wanted to Needless to say, the 1st week of the BETA crushed L

I will never know how was socom before patches, since it released in EU later, I had to download 800 MB Patch before I started playing. Anyway. Socom is probably the best console shooter online ever made, its what counter strike is for PC but 3rd Person. It has the same feel of counter strike and no run and gunning tards like COD4
Slant6 has been patching this game so much, granted most patches should be before released but nowdays game runs smooth and I never ever saw and bug or glitch or clipping issue. Now with this patch woot AK-74 XD

I would love a free socom game to get back into socom. Socom 2 was my first online shooter and it was the most fun experience I have ever had ever and it was a RUSH! and i would play at least 4 hours a day after school. I would love to be back in those days where i play socom for like 5 hours a day lol so add me to the drawing

I bought it, It was very disappointing, I have been a long time socom player, i was almost pushed into writing zipper for them allowing slant six to ruin the series, I'm not interested in "MAG" so if these "fixes" do fix the game ill be the first back in line, i'm not a registered user, so I guess I'm not eligible for this contest, but that's ok, I'm happy you allowed me to share my thoughts.

i'm not happy that my SOCOM story got cut short. Needless to say, what got cut off was the main gist of the story. I would keep tryong to play, but with the darn errors and continous glitches, and most of all, the never ending semi weekly SOCOM patch emails explaining what was once again fixed, and then the next week, get ANOTHER patch update for ti..and even now, they keep coming and coming and coming. Even now, here were are, 10-11 months later and we STILL get SOCOM patch updated email..lol and THAT was what was cut off.. now my story makes better sense
