PlayStation Home

Just when you thought Sony was done with their announcements and all their exciting news was out, Sony comes out yet again with a HUGE announcement. They have announced PlayStation Home v1.3 featuring Universal Game Launching. That's right, Universal Game Launching. In September, Sony will be launching PlayStation Home v1.3 and will be including a LARGE amount of new features. To see what all is coming with PlayStation Home v1.3, click Read More.

PlayStation Home will now support the very much hyped Universal Game Launching. This will allow you to launch into ANY PlayStation 3 game directly from Home. Titles that FULLY, not sure what they mean by this, support game launching like Street Fighter IV, Resistance 2, MotorStorm, and Far Cry 2 will be identified with unique icons that will appear over an avatar's head. Simplified game launching will take you from Home to the start menu of the corresponding game with ease. imply insert the disc of your choice while in Home and follow the on screen directions and you’ll be good to go.

Fans of buying virtual clothes and items will be stoked to hear what else they have announced. You will now be able to preview items of clothing in 3D (including the ability to check out multiple items simultaneously to see what combinations best suit your taste). You will also be able to preview all furniture in 3D as well, complete with zoom and rotate options so you can check your potential purchases from all angles, right down to the nitty gritty. They are also going to give you the ability to rent certain items and purchase "consumables" (limited use), such as the new Shrink Potion that lets you shrink the size of your avatar.

PlayStation Home v1.3 will also include additional portable objects (like the Bubble Machine) made available to the PlayStation Home community. To start, they will be giving everyone FREE cameras that you can use to snap pictures from either a 1st or 3rd person view. These photos will automatically be saved to the Photo section of the XMB, from which you can then upload to the picture frames you have hanging in your personal spaces.

That is all for big announcements, but they are also including little things here and there. Below is a list of the additional features/content coming.

  • You’ll be able to manually hide any portable object that you encounter, and objects placed by anyone on your Ignore or Block list will also be hidden.
  • Additional Emotes: including two new action emotes (you can flip a coin with your friends or play the old “pick a number between 1 and 100” game)
  • New poses
  • New categories of clothing
  • Optimized targeting system
  • New queuing system
  • Determine your cache size (you can choose from 3, 5, 8, and 12 GB)
  • New SingStar space

It's a pretty nice update but I would have liked to see custom in-game music included.

That would be pretty cool. We could all meet up in tga's club house and chit chat for a bit then launch a game from there.

Hell yeah man that is what i am talking about. It would be even better if we could voice chat in Home without calling anyone.

These are some cool features, what really interest me besides the universal game launching, is the choose your cache size, wonder if choosing 12 gb makes everyone load in a second!

This actually gives many of the hardcore gamers a reason to go to Home, since they can actually have discussions before launching a game with a party

Once 1.3 goes live, me and the TGA crew will test a few things and if it works nice and smooth, definitely look for a TGA Club to come soon.
